Cut the head of a person or animal out of a magazine and glue it in your sketchbook. Draw a body and/or clothing for the head using a variety of patterns (stripes, polka dots, zigzags, swirls, your own original patterns, etc)
Draw the outline of a fruit or vegetable and then divide it into sections—use a different pattern to decorate and add interest to each section
Make rubbings of many different textures on different sheets of paper---then cut up and combine these papers to form an interesting collage in your sketchbook (realistic or abstract).
*Make rubbings by placing textured objects behind a paper and then rubbing a pencil on top of the paper. Leaves work very well for this. Find at least two objects with different textures and draw them in an interesting composition (such as a banana in a bird's nest).
